Something Extraordinary Is Happening in the World, And Most People Haven’t Noticed

Most of us haven’t quite realized there is something extraordinary happening.

A few months ago, I freed myself from standard-procedure society. I broke the chains of fear that kept me locked up into the system. Since then, I see the world from a different perspective: the one that everything is going through change and that most of us are unaware of that.

Why is the world changing? In this post, I’ll point out the eight reasons that lead me to believe it.

1. No one can stand the employment model any longer.

We are reaching our limits. People working with big corporations can’t stand their jobs. The lack of purpose knocks on your door as if it came from inside you like a yell of despair.

People want out. They want to drop everything. Take a look on how many people are willing to risk entrepreneurship, people leaving on sabbaticals, people with work-related depression, people in burnout.

EPS Social Entreprenuers Roles

Welcome to Eco Preservation Society's
Environmental Social Entrepreneur Class #1

At first glance, the chart below may seem unfamiliar.  Ultimately however, this process is not fundamentally different than setting up a Local Little League or a Boy Scout Troop.  In the case of EPS, we are assembling teams of environmental social entrepreneurs to fill the respective roles.

The following matrix outlines the initial set of roles within our environmental crowdsourcing platform, but this will certainly evolve over time. If you have a core competency that you bring to the table, we will find a place for you.  In the same way that we that you would organize a recreational softball team, each role must be filled by at least one person on each team.   Each Regional Team will function as a simi-autonomous organization, with it's own budget, it's own membership, its own programs and it own revenues, just like a YMCA or a local Little League.  Each Regional Team and each Social Entrepreneur within the team, will be responsible for working out their own budget for their own programs.  The concept it to provide you and your team the platform, the community and the opportunity to put your ideas to work in whatever area you feel you have core competencies.

EPS Technology

NationBuilder is a unique online community organizing system that brings together a comprehensive suite of tools that today's leaders and creators need to gather their tribes.   NationBuilder is a community organizing software platform that helps people organize and build community-based relationships.

At its core, NationBuilder is an approach to community organizing — to leadership — that’s centered on listening, feedback, actionable data, and individual empowerment. The design of the product and the company’s culture are both a direct result of this philosophy, and it underpins everything about the NationBuilder experience.

NationBuilder’s “community organizing system” is not just the product itself: it’s the pairing of the product with the philosophy. It’s what I call the “NationBuilder way” of community organizing, and it’s incredibly effective.

Specifically, NationBuilder is an intergrated set of tools on a single platform that provides membership managementdynamic websitesevents managementvolunteer enrollment , online donationscrowdfunding, rewards programsaffiliate marketingemail campaignssocial media support, and even text-based outreach.

More importantly, the system supports distributed structure accountability that supports our approach to the Holacracy Social Technology

EPS Organization

Holacracy is a social technology or system of organizational governance in which authority and decision-making are distributed throughout a holarchy of self-organizing teams rather than being vested in a management hierarchy.

Holacracy is a new way of running an organization that removes power from a management hierarchy and distributes it across clear roles, which can then be executed autonomously, without a micromanaging boss. The work is actually more structured than in a conventional company, just differently so. With Holacracy, there is a clear set of rules and processes for how a team breaks up its work, and defines its roles with clear responsibilities and expectations.

EPS is seeking Environmental Social Entrepreneurs to fulfill key roles in the organization.  We are also seeking Organizers, Educators, Explorers, Volunteers and Citizen Scientists

EPS Culture

In order to align Mission, Technology and Organization into a mobilizing force, the Eco Preservation Society promotes the following principles and customs in order to create a rapidly deployable, highly efficient, scalable and responsive environmental organization.

  1. A Place For EveryoneNo one will be turned away, there is a place for everyone.  EPS is committed to developing local employment opportunities for youth and other disadvantaged people that may not have viable income in today’s economic system .
  2. Non-Political:  EPS is a non-political environmental action organization.  Regardless of political philosophies, everyone should be made to feel welcome.  EPS will make an active effort to reach out to all groups! (Climate Change is not considered a political issue in EPS culture.)
  3. Non-Activist:  We are Active Environmentalist, not Environmental Activists.  Many other organizations are filling the Activist space, EPS is plays another role.
  4. Bottom-Up Organization: EPS is a Bottom-Up style organization.  Authority is distributed across the network, not delegated from the top.
  5. Organization of One: The foundation of Bottom-Up organization starts with development of an Organization-of-One.  Each Participant will receive guidance and training from your own EPS point person.  Each EPS Organizer and Participant will organize their involvement around their own skills and aspirations.  Rather than being forced to fit into a static job description in a hierarchical organizational structure, EPS Organizers and Participants are empowered to focus their activities in clearly defined roles that allows for autonomous authority within the context clearly defined rules and structural accountability's.  Accountabilities are distributed to the community, they do not reside in a "boss".
  6. Personal Support Ecosystem: The Organization of One concept  is manifest in the development of a Personal Support Ecosystem organized especially for every Participant, Organizer and Program Partner on the platform
  7. Pay-it-Forward Culture: The Personal Support Ecosystem will be driven by a deep commitment to a Pay-it-Ford culture that informs the actions of everyone involved in the Eco Preservation Society.  Careers are built on a Commitment to Service, not moving up an organizational pecking order.
  8. Empowerment Interview:  The mechanism for execution of the Pay-it-Forward culture and the development of Personal Support Ecosystem is the Empowerment Interview.
  9. Aspirational Programming: - Every Participant, Organizer and Organization engaged will make a personal commitment to at least one aspiration project or program.  That commitment can be expressed in whatever capacity best fits their skills and commitment level.
  10. Budgets:  Every program supported will have a published and transparent budget.
  11. Holacracy (lite):  EPS is organized on the Holacracy principle of organizing around the work that needs to be done, rather than people filling static positions.  EPS has deployed a simpled version of Holacray because so much of the management functions are managed on the platforms.  In most cast the rolls will gravitate toward simplicity.
  12. Weekly/Monthly Events: The social glue that will build the social culture is the commitment to the development of and participation in weekly/monthly events to drive participant engagement.

Dawn of Social Networks: Hunter-gatherers Provide Clues About the Evolution of Cooperation

Coren Apicella, a research fellow in the Christakis lab at Harvard Medical School, spent the summer of 2010 traveling around the remote Lake Eyasi region of Tanzania with the Hadza, one of the last remaining populations of hunter-gatherers on the planet. Their lives offer a window into our past—and clues about
